Trans-Am Five - Postponed Until May 2021

Installment V - Postponed Until 2021 - originally written on August 17, 2020.  Updated twice on September 10, 2020 and again on October 24, 2020.

"The better part of valor is discretion."  Shakespeare

We met virtually, via Zoom, last evening and decided to postpone the ride until May 2021.  Several reasons factored into the decision.  Kansas is a hot spot right now for the Coronavirus Pandemic.  Colorado, where we are headed, is still pretty light with Covid cases.  Two of our team members are still working (including yours truly) and would have to quarantine for 2 weeks upon our return.  Additionally, since we are all from states considered to be of concern at this time, Arizona, Florida, and Pennsylvania, we're screwed six ways to Sunday.  I suppose it goes without saying that all of us take this Pandemic seriously.

Map of Kansas showing the counties and the numbers of Covid cases in each.  The line is our approximate route through the state.

Although we are disappointed, it is comforting to know that Spring will come around again quickly.  The earlier start will be incentive to stay in fighting shape through the Winter.  In the Fall, I may do a local and socially distanced tour to satisfy my need for an adventure and to build up endurance.

Chief Shikellamy's profile, along the Susquehanna River, near Sunbury and Northumberland, PA.  I passed by this landmark on my tour, which roughly followed the river, in Pennsylvania, from the Maryland Line to the New York State Line.

I had a great solo and socially distanced trip during which I took my longest ride of the year, 67 miles and the hilliest ride of the year, about 5600 feet of climbing.  If I can maintain a good level of fitness through the Winter, I'll be ready for Installment Five.  Best wishes and good tailwinds to you all.  Until Summer 2021...

Maybe it is a good thing we won't be riding until the Summer of 2021.  Winter came early to the Rockies in 2020.  One of our group members, Kevin, took this photo of his wife, on 9/9/20.  Brrrr.....
